Find Yourself a Lover

Yes, just as you read in the title, find yourself a lover. We all need one.

I read this phrase somewhere a couple of years ago, and when I said it to my mother (who had been married for more than 40 years), she was horrified by my good advice.

A lover is whatever makes you sigh at the mere thought of it. A lover is what brings that spark to your eyes when you remember it. A lover brightens your day, draws smiles from you and makes your problems disappear while you are together, and makes them easier to bear when you are apart. That is a lover, the one that steals your heart and your time, takes away your sorrows and nourishes your soul. A lover is that instrument you enjoy playing, whose rhythm slips into your veins and makes every cell in your body move in unison; a lover is that paintbrush we were given as children to express our ideas, our feelings; a lover is that sport you always wanted to take up, that dance you always wanted to learn and feel how your body renews itself with every movement; a lover is that book in your mind that your hands have not yet begun to write…

That is a lover: something you don’t need a holiday from, something you don’t want a break from. It is what brightens your days, stimulates your endorphins and brings out the best in you. That lover is out there waiting for you: take a risk, dare, remember with your heart how it makes you feel when you think of it, and act. You hold the helm of your life; the decision is yours. Find yourself a lover.

“This is loving: to fly towards a secret sky, to make a hundred veils fall at every moment. First, to let life go. Finally, to take a step without feet.”
