I believe in angels on earth, the ones who brighten your day, the ones who bring a smile to your face. Those who tell you exactly what you need to hear, not what you want to hear; who understand you even if they do not speak the same language; who do not know how to ask, only how to give. I believe in those angels with invisible wings, with an aura you can see shining from miles away, whose very sight brightens your life. Some are disguised as children, others as teachers, neighbors, bakers, doctors, technicians who repair your refrigerator, musicians, nurses… many as pets. And all of them, absolutely all of them, have that divine connection that brightens your life.
I believe in the angel called Mom, the one called Dad, the one called brother, the one called neighbor, the one called friend… But above all, I believe in that angel we do not yet know: the one who lets you pass when you are in a great hurry in traffic, the one who holds the door for you, the one who helps you carry your groceries, the one who tells you that you can take one more step, the one who holds out a hand when you were about to fall to your knees from walking so far.
Let us believe in the angels we meet along the way. Let us receive their wisdom with joy. The things they do for us are spontaneous acts full of love; they know they, too, are meant to receive love. Yes, that is how it is: love multiplies when it is given. These angels know that these daily miracles do not only brighten your life; they also brighten the lives of everyone who lives with you or comes after you, because those whose day has been saved will be able to give a little of the love they have just received.
Let us be angels, let us be who we are meant to be. Let us recognize the angel who also lives within us and leave a mark on another person’s heart. Happiness is measured by the moments when we forget ourselves and become one with another.
“On this earth there are angels all around us… in subtle disguises.”
